Past Events at the Center -- Christmas Celebration
Ornament Making - Las Posadas - Folklorico music by Dr. Vigil - Pinata breaking - Fun
for all
Ornament making for the children was one of the favorite activities at the Center. Children demonstrated their artistic
skills all day long making various Christmas tree ornaments to decorative bells.
The annual Las Posadas at the Center was performed by La Asociación de la Guadalupana from Socorro. The pilgrimage of Joseph
and Mary sing at the doors asking for a place to stay - but are refused.
Children portray Mary, Joseph, and the angels, as they seek a place to stay in Bethlehem.
Finally, an inn-keeper allows Mary and Joseph to enter and spend the night, where the baby Jesus is born, and the pilgrims
sing and rejoice.
Folklorico music, song, stories, and more
Dr. Vigil plays a pretty mean "fiddle" as well.
Noted New Mexico musician, Dr. Cipriano Vigil, entertained with traditional folklorico music, song, stories, and quips of wisdom.
Self taught on numerous instruments, and an accomplished composer, much of New Mexico's beauty and heritage are preserved in Vigil's traditional
music.
The children took their turns at the dancing piñata, while others scrambled to catch the falling candy.
Ranger Romero at the other end of the piñata. It is hard to tell who was having more fun ... the children ... or the Center staff!
