The dirt causeway along the south side of the Center building has been converted into a beautiful rust-red brick patio. This
was a project of the Foundation, with the construction and brick installation donated by First State Bank in Socorro.
Included
in the patio are the "patio bricks" customized with the names of those individuals and organizations supporting the Center through
the fund raising brick program during the dedication and afterward.
Already visitors to the Center are enjoying the new
patio and benches to relax during their visit. It has a spectacular view of the desert and Jornada del Muerto.

A horno building workshop conducted over the weekends of Oct. 13-14 and 20-21 built a handsome authentic horno at the Center.
It is located south of the red-brick patio and is a permanent addition to the Heritage Center for use during Center activities or
special events. Dave Harkness, from Fort Selden State Monument, led the team in building the horno - and indeed, a job well
done. It has already been used for baking a chicken dinner and home made bread. Those who tasted the results gave it a yummy
thumbs up! The building of the horno was a project sponsored by the Foundation for perpetual use by the Center.
